A new side of Needles

We got our car back on Tuesday from the mechanic and made preparations to leave the state the next day.  At dinnertime, we took a joyride through to the other side of Needles.  It was exhilarating to cruise through the town after having spent so many days navigating the town on foot.  The river park is only about a mile or so away, and is a stark contrast to the barren landscape by the interstate.

The river was quiet and serene.  A few people skipped pebbles and meditated to the rhythm of the current as it lapped on gravel and clamshells.  We could see the Arizona border just on the other side.

On our short drive back, we noticed that the car was buzzing.  We stopped at the only Thai restaurant in town with the intention of grabbing dinner.  The place was small and dirty and we may have been the only walk-in customers all day.  A large man with a slow hobble and a traech scar brought us menus though we were too worried about the car to stay.  We’d lost our appetite.  David asked for a referral to a good mechanic before we left - everyone in town told us our mechanic is the best.

Defeated, we order a pizza to be delivered to the hotel.  The maintenance man at the Rio del Sol caught us in the parking lot while we were moving all of our boxes from our car to our room in preparation for the worst. He took an extended coffee break with us to discuss our car problems and honeymoon situation.  He also recommended a good mechanic - the one we already had!

All in all, another day with Needles as our muse.
