Working Birthday and Mountain-Style Indigestion
Its a working birthday, and true to Loomis form, we're too busy to celebrate. Amy is working away at some papers and a charity art show. A year of post-bacc study in ceramics ends with a Rib-Off (combination rib cook-off and fry-fest) and a visiting artist talk. The kiln yard is full of smells. Nibbles are available while each rack and secret recipe takes a turn on the grill. The tables are set with unholy sputtering bacon-wrapped fry creations.
Inside the studio, the ribs are formally served and judged.
The handmade trophies, quality crafted by ceramics grads who clearly have plenty of time to focus on them,
Boomer heads the fry station.
The winners announced, with Sarah in 1st Place. Ryan wins the "I wouldn't feed it to my dog" division.
Platter of regret, fried bacon curl.
After an all-afternoon calorie fest and a rather uncomfortable studio visit from the visiting artist, we're still saving room for our chance to asserts our place in the food chain at the Grafton VFD Wild Game Dinner. Goose, squirrel, venison, pheasant, fishes, and other wild game meats are served up from crockpots by volunteers in all-you can eat fashion.
The event is a charity fundraiser supporting the West Virginia University Wildlife and Fisheries Societies. We won some books as a door prize, and David took home a fishtank as a silent auction prize.
This was shortly before nausea from eating too much set in! Was it worth it? Mostly.
